This lighthearted story features a fun—loving, appealing character wrestling with a situation familiar to young readers.
Crocodile has a big imagination. He's always thinking up fun, new things to do like sliding through mud puddles, sunbathing by the shore, or floating downstream stretched out on a log. Crocodile has a big problem too. No matter what he does, all the other crocs follow him and copy him--every time! Crocodile finally manages to escape his fellow crocs, only to discover a surprising truth: being by himself is not nearly as much fun as being with his friends.
David Bedford has created an appealing character and situation that will resonate with children. Artist Emily Bolam's bold, expressive illustrations bring out the fun and humor of the story.
David Bedford is the author over thirty books for children, including The Copy Crocs; Long Journey Home; Ella's Games; It's My Turn; Big Bears Can!; and Touch the Sky, My Little Bear. He lives in England.

"The lush full— and double—page paintings colorfully convey the subtle humor of this comical story... The rhythmic pacing and effective use of dialogue makes this an ideal book for reading aloud." —School Library Journal•
"Landscapes rendered in textured swatches of color laid down quickly with a broad brush are child—friendly enough to invite budding artists to do some copying of their own, while bold black outlines and goofy expressions domesticate this herd of crocs quite amiably.... Youngsters experiencing similar frustrations while trying to be on the vanguard of the new, only to find themselves endlessly copied, will appreciate Crocodile's dilemma and learn a bit about their position with respect to the crowd as well." —Bulletin for the Center for Children's Books•
"Bright and fanciful...Happy and energetic...A fun story." —Bristol Herald Courier•
